Turning illness into art: Illustrating life with a chronic condition

In medical terms, every health condition has a clear definition. But only you know what it really feels like to live with it — and making others understand can be a challenge. When we asked some “Patients Like Me” members to explain what life was like with their condition, their responses painted vivid pictures of what they’re going through. So, we asked “Patients Like Me” UX Designer, Kristina Ng to turn those descriptions into illustrations.

Kristina Ng is a User Experience Designer at PatientsLikeMe. Monday to Friday, she works to build and improve products that best serve PatientsLikeMe members. Outside of work she likes rock climbing, watching Project Runway and exploring New England.

“I loved the process of bringing these experiences to life and I hope I captured some part of what they feel like. In this series, our hope was to recognize these experiences and give them a voice, and to help spread awareness and understanding around life with a chronic condition.”
