The GeneSight Psychotropic laboratory developed a test that analyzes how your genes affect the way your body may respond to FDA-approved medicines commonly prescribed to treat depression, anxiety, bipolar disease, schizophrenia or other behavioral health conditions.

But a company in Mason, Ohio, is making advances in helping pinpoint the medicine best suited to an individual suffering from Depression or another mental illness — by analyzing DNA swabbed from the inside of the patient’s cheek.
